/kəˈmyo͞onədē/
A group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common; a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.
The word community can mean different things to different people. Regardless of how you define it, or how yours looks, in order for a community to thrive, everyone needs to be involved.
While it would be easy to let others carry the load, it’s the responsibility of each person living within the community to determine how they can best contribute. But how can you help? Here are 4 ways you can get involved in your community and start making a difference today!

How to Get Involved in Your Community

Physical Ways
1. Give your time. Undoubtedly, one of the greatest gifts you can give to your community is your time. Whether it’s as little as once a month or as often as once a week, any amount of time you can offer is appreciated and will have an impact.
Not sure which ways you can volunteer? Consider tutoring students after school, participating in voting activities or delivering meals to seniors. When it comes to volunteering, there is no wrong way to do it! All you need is a big heart and two helping hands!
2. Share a Skill. What is your greatest strength? Do you have amazing tech or organizing skills? Are you knowledgeable in the field of law or accounting? While it’s great to get paid for what you’re good at, these same skill sets are in high demand with those in need and sharing them with those who are less fortunate is a great way to give back to your community.  If you’re stretched for time or want to reach out beyond your own neighborhood, there are even ways to volunteer from home.
Conceptual Ways
3. Donate money. Short on time and skills? How about opening your wallet and financially supporting charities in your community? Most community organizations are non-profits, which means they rely upon outside donations to keep their operations running.  Whether you’re able to donate a little or a lot, providing financial support can go a long way in helping your community be the best it can be. The tax benefits you’ll receive may also interest to you!
4. Promote. According to marketers, the number one way to promote anything is word of mouth. Have you told anyone about all the good works you are doing in your local community? Share your charitable experiences with your friends, invite others to join you on your next volunteer shift or post/repost the information on your social media platforms. Who knows? Your promotion may be just the motivation someone needs to get involved themselves!
Getting involved in your community, no matter how big or small, is a decision you will never regret. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”  What can you do in and for your community today?
What ways have you found to give back to your community? How has it made a difference in your life?
